Plant engineering and processing technology for landfill decommissioning

New legal requirements, the expansion of conurbations, the reclamation of building land and the recycling of residual materials are bringing the topic of landfill dismantling more and more into focus.

The dismantling of a landfill starts with a backhoe, which transports the loosened material to the processing plant. There, the material is fed onto a screening machine, e.g. a splitter. The screened material < 60 mm is collected by a discharge belt and subjected to composting tests. An FE and Ne separator installed above the discharge belt enables the iron components in the screen fraction to be separated out.  Plastics and wood are removed from the waste materials. The plastics should only be removed from the oversize material if they were not or only slightly contaminated and are of a quality suitable for recycling.

Projects of this type are an ideal area of application for the SPLITTER thanks to its flexibility, robustness and high performance.

Landfill waste

The actors

  1. Disposal companies
  2. Municipalities / states
  3. Construction companies
  4. Planning offices
  5. Landfill operators

The challenge

  • Age, type and location of a landfill
  • Extraction of secondary raw materials
  • Extension of service life through volume extraction
  • Recovery of landfill space
  • Minimization of environmental pollution (e.g. groundwater pollution)

Practical example of landfill decommissioning

The contents of a long-sealed mixed landfill are separated

Feed material: All excavated material from a landfill site

Objective: Preparatory step for the recovery of raw materials (at the beginning of a process chain) such as films and plastics for energy recovery in incineration, FE/NE and a sustainable reduction in landfill volume

The SPLITTER as a solution

  1. The SPLITTER can process the various material streams of a landfill (household waste, commercial and bulky waste, slag as well as construction and road construction waste)
  2. Production of refuse derived fuels (RDF)
  3. Production of recycling material (RC material)
  4. Significantly less landfilling

The advantages of the SPLITTER

  • Wear-resistant and clogging-free
  • Also very suitable for unshredded material
  • Optimum loosening and dosing for subsequent processes
  • Screen gaps do not clog: consistent screen quality

Our recommendation

SPLITTER HOOK

The hook-lift mobile SPLITTER HOOK achieves the highest possible screening capacity on the smallest possible screening surface. Thanks to its robust design, it can effectively process heavy screening material.
